Important Board News! / GAME OVER, MAN!
« Last post by dsmart on June 30, 2021, 09:41:43 AM »
I setup this board back in 2015 as a place to discuss the on-going Star Citizen fiasco without being subject to the fanboy bs that's over on the official Reddit and Star Citizen forums. Since that time, many lols have been had, and we're all experts on the subject.

To that end, seeing as all the primary issues that I wrote about the game back in the infamous 2015 July Blog have come true, there's really nothing further to add to the discourse.

So, I have decided to set the board to Read-Only until further notice. You can still catch us on the Discord server channel if you need to vent, chat, or share new hilarity.

Aha, the first trailer of Bethsesda's Starfield, after that non-descript teaser a few years back.

"in-game" footage. continuing the Odyssey trailers' "in-game" footage sign trend, basically calling out SC's outsourced and faked trailers over the years.  :emot-laugh: , now the one-two punch "RIP SC" knockdown of the first half of '21 as more space themed games show SC and CR can't pretend they are pioneering advancements in the genre over their ponzi scammy years, while other legit dev firms are making real and envelope pushing progress.

Maybe I can post in this thread? The forum keeps throwing me different messages that my IP or my post are sus.

Looks like they are starting over.

Well... thats your opinion, thats fine.

I don't like it at all and i'm a big fan of Eilite.
But this version is still a alpha.

Well... Odyssey started somehow like SC

yeah, I'd admit the launch has been rough. The first few days had a lot of server disconnections and related problems no doubt partly due to the highest ever server load of users in ED's history. But imo, it's still far and away from the shenanigans and farcical history of CIG and SC and there have already been two hotfixes. FDev isn't going to let this slide for months and years like "30k" SC. My experience is much bettter now and I can play 95% of the time with no real gameplay breaking problems and I left it on and wasn't disconnected out for several hours. With Braben's apology yesterday, I doubt he sincerely expected it to be that rough. My guess is that there was some miscommunication of how ready Odyssey was, and it was a bad call and mistake not to have a month long beta period with a whole test copy of the combined verse like they used to do for updates for Beyond and Horizons. I have no doubt and complete faith they are working around the clock to square these issues for many about lower framerates, and some gameplay bugs. Though I've been almost completely fine doing regular ED activities and the missions worked fine for me. Also enjoying all the new textures and ground assets. The game has never looked better. This also goes to show how realistically hard it is to have so much persistent working with both a full ship game and now on foot perspectives, areas and npcs and in such an unprecedented groundbreaking scope. o7

It's a pretty neat insight into the inner workings of the dev team if you think about it:

An AI bartender isn't necessary, it adds nothing to the game or gameplay - it's a polish feature / vanity project. BUT it's much easier for a team of animators / programmers / artists to accomplish than trying to add actual gameplay (which will depend on all sorts of tech that isn't in the game) or other critical technologies. Essentially it's the low hanging fruit so they can prove to everyone that they're doing something whilst leaving the harder stuff for another day. The fact that Chris seems to encourage this sort of practice is part of the problem they have at CIG

The latest from GlassDoor and 'ewwww' is this a doozy. Word of warning, if you plan to work at CIG, don't work at the L.A office.
